When you’re called by God but rejected by people.
What He did Vs What He Got
He healed their sick, raised their dead, and taught them truth —
yet they still cried, “Crucify Him.”
He came to save them, but they didn’t want saving that way.
He was the Anointed One, but also the Unwanted One.
He became the Unwanted Messiah.
WHY THE UNWANTED MESSIAH
By the time Jesus was born, Israel was weary.
They had endured Babylon, Persia, Greece, and now Rome.
They prayed for a Messiah — a warrior, a liberator, a king.
Then Jesus came…
Not with a sword, but with a cross.
Not shouting war cries, but preaching repentance and love.
They wanted a warrior on a horse—
but got a carpenter on a donkey.
They expected fire and thunder.
He came with grace and truth.
They wanted revolution—
He brought redemption.
When Jesus preached mercy instead of war, forgiveness instead of vengeance, and love for enemies instead of rebellion, He disappointed their dream.
They wanted liberation from Caesar—but Jesus came to bring liberation from sin.
WHICH MESSIAH ?:
The Scriptures actually revealed two dimensions of the same Messiah:
- The Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53) — who would die to redeem mankind.
- The Conquering King (Revelation 19) — who will return to reign forever.
They expected the second but received the first.
The timing was off, but not the identity.
When Jesus didn’t fit their idea of “Messiah material,”
they unfollowed Him… literally.
(John 6:66 — “And many walked with Him no more.” )
When they realized He wouldn’t play their game, they turned against Him.
But Jesus didn’t come to please people —
He came to fulfill purpose.
“My kingdom is not of this world.” – John 18:36
When You Feel Like the “Unwanted One”
Maybe you’ve been rejected by the very people you were sent to help.
Maybe you’ve been side-eyed in church for being “too deep.”
Maybe your obedience made you unpopular.
Maybe your purpose doesn’t fit the mold others made for you.
If so — you’re in good company.
Jesus understands rejection at every level
LESSONS FROM THE UNWANTED MESSIAH.
Jesus could have just played along and given them what they wanted, but he didn’t and there are lessons to learn from his example.
- Don’t compromise to be accepted.
Jesus stayed true to His mission, even when it cost Him everything.
2. Rejection doesn’t cancel anointing.
Being misunderstood doesn’t mean you’re not called — it often confirms that you are.
3. Purpose isn’t proven by popularity.
Heaven’s “well done” matters more than people’s “you’re doing well.”
4. Love those who don’t receive you.
Jesus washed Judas’s feet. Real maturity loves even when betrayed.
You can still smile at your “Judas” too… just don’t hand them your passwords.
5. God’s plan may not match your preference.
They wanted a throne; He gave them a cross — and through that, salvation.
Sometimes the promotion is the persecution.
Reflection:
You can be anointed and still unwanted.
Called, yet criticized.
Sent by God, but rejected by people.
But take heart—
The same stone the builders rejected became the cornerstone. (Psalm 118:22)
Keep walking. You’re not failing — you’re following.
Final Thought:
When people don’t recognize your worth, stay faithful.
When you feel unwanted, stay anointed.
Because purpose doesn’t need popularity to be powerful.
