How do you receive interpretation for your tongues exactly?
Many individuals who regularly speak in tongues usually have the gift of interpretation in operation but may not recognize it.
For instance, when you speak in tongues for a while, you may start to either visualize the face of a relative while praying or certain thoughts come into your mind that you were not previously thinking about. These occurrences often relate to the subject matter you are praying about.
At times, the interpretation is manifested as a feeling, prompting you to say specific words, sentences, or phrases in your understanding, which arise from your time of praying in the spirit.
There are even instances when the interpretation can come in a dream long after you have finished praying.
The interpretation of tongues can manifest in various ways.
Pay attention to inner promptings while you pray:
- An inspired utterance: A statement spoken under the influence or inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
- Revelation or insight about a person or situation.
- Impressions (mental, emotional, physical): A knowing, passing thought, ideas, a sense of what God is saying, a reminder about something, a light feeling, heavy feelings, unexplainable joy, a strong conviction, comfort, sudden peace, or a warning.
- A Bible scripture that comes to mind, a word of encouragement, or an instruction.
- Word of Knowledge or Word of Wisdom.
- An inner vision: An image or picture within your spirit or a sequence of events played like a movie that flashes across your consciousness.
Initially, it may be somewhat unclear because you only know in part. It’s an interpretation, not a direct translation.
Every Christian has been given the ability to comprehend the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
And he said, “To you, it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God.” (Luke 8:10)
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him” – these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. (1 Corinthians 2:9)
